About us
Norway's private freight rail company
As a privately owned railway company, OnRail receives no state subsidies. We have no one else to lean on. That's why quality and price must be competitive enough that freight customers choose the train over the truck – every single day, on every single route.
Fortunately, the authorities are planning stricter environmental requirements in the transport sector, while businesses increasingly lead the way with good environmental choices. The price still has to be low. That's why OnRail has few directors and a lot of entrepreneurial spirit.

Our story
From Romsdalen to the whole country
2021
OnRail is founded
People with long experience from Norwegian rail – train drivers, terminal workers and schedulers – join forces to start a privately owned freight rail company.
2021
Back in business on the Rauma Line
We restart freight trains between Åndalsnes and Oslo. On this single route alone, the train was estimated to replace around 10,000 truck trips a year.
2024
OnRail takes over North Rail Express
When NRE traffic between Oslo and Narvik was discontinued in December, we took over operations – with DB Schenker as a major customer. It was the company's biggest growth step so far.
Today
Five terminals, the whole country
We run intermodal transport, wagonload and full trains between Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Åndalsnes and Narvik – with the market's best punctuality.
One route was set to take 10,000 trucks off the road. Today we run five.
At launch, the Rauma Line alone was estimated to take around 10,000 trucks off the road every year. Since then the network has grown to five terminals – and the maths now applies to your volume too.

OnRail was founded in 2021, but the professional community is far older than the company. Train drivers, terminal workers and schedulers with decades of experience from Norwegian rail stand behind every departure. They know the track, the winter and the cargo – which is why we can promise punctuality and actually keep it.
